PomPano Beach, FL (PRWEB) March 4, 2009 -- Tri-Rail, South Florida's premier commuter rail system, will launch the "Wish You Were Here" promotional program on March 9, 2009. This multi-faceted awareness campaign will emphasize the cost savings available to those who ride Tri-Rail to work, school or wherever life takes them throughout South Florida.

"It is important for us to continually educate the public about the cost-saving benefits of public transportation," said Bonnie Arnold, director of marketing, South Florida Regional Transportation Authority/Tri-Rail. "We recognize that money is tight for so many people, and this campaign conveys the message that by riding Tri-Rail you can save money to pay other bills or enjoy a dream vacation."

This effort fosters a great partnership with Pollo Tropical®, who will provide in-store promotional support in 63 of Pollo Tropical's South Florida restaurants from March 9 through March 23, 2009. The campaign includes the chance to win an all-inclusive, week-long trip for two to Jamaica, compliments of promotional partners Air Jamaica and Rose Hall Resort & Spa in Montego Bay.

"We support public transportation and Tri-Rail is a proven good partner," said Kim Miller, senior director of marketing, Pollo Tropical®. To further convey the great savings of riding Tri-Rail, Pollo Tropical® is providing a downloadable coupon valid for $3 off of a Family Meal with completed registration and contest rules at tri-rail.com.

Tri-Rail carried more than four million passengers during 2008, marking the first time in the system's 20-year history that ridership has broken that benchmark in a single, calendar year. With a total of 4,303,509 passengers in 2008, Tri-Rail experienced a 22.9 percent ridership increase over the previous year, when Tri-Rail carried 3,501,704 passengers.

"These statistics show that the trend of double-digit growth we have experienced over the past three years is continuing," said Joseph Giulietti, executive director, South Florida Regional Transportation Authority/Tri-Rail. "People in South Florida, and nationwide, have come to realize that using public transportation isn't just about saving money on gasoline; it is also about mobility, sustainability and taking responsibility for the environment."
